Breakfast is a simple affair in Brazil: coffee, milk, bread and jam, sometimes cheese and ham, with fresh fruit. My favorite: papaya! In Belém do Pará I also had mangoes and a wonderful avocado cream. In Recife, a tasty, salty grilled cheese (queijo de coalho) I had never eaten before. In Rio, it’s also available in certain restaurants and at the beach, kind of a recent fad.

This huge country offers a cuisine as diverse as its regions and climates, with the staples being rice and beans. Manioc is used as a flour and a seasoning. Many dishes show their African roots. Fruits are many and varied, some found only in Brazil.

café: strong, black coffee
café duplo: double espresso
café com pingo: coffee with a little milk
café glacé: iced coffee

Fruit juices are popular and served pure, as a suco. As for it sem açucar if you don’t want added sugar, e gelo, if you want it iced, or natural. Try a milkshake batido de fruta, and a guaraná, which is a soft drink made with the juice of an Amazonian fruit. Beer is served in large size as cerveja, in a smaller container as cervejinha. Cachaça, pinga and aguardente are names for very potent, inexpensive sugar-cane alcohol. Mixed with fruit juice, crushed ice and sugar, Cachaça becomes a caipirinha, which is delicious.

I answered you question a minute ago and the comp erased everything.!!!
Any way. I am Brazilian and the basic thing in Brazil is coffee with milk, french bread (small) and butter. I have found similar bread at safeway. This is a must for almost everybody. If you are poor, this is what you have.

If you have money, you have this, plus cold meat like ham and turkey, cheese (try to find Queijo Fresco or whatever Brazilian cheese you find at the store.) We eat a lot of mozzarella too. I like to eat sort of grilled cheese with french bread and queijo minas (fresco).

My family likes our coffee very strong, so we add a lot of milk. My friends like weak coffe and little milk. Is kind of a latte. But we boil the milk. No creamer, no cold milk.

Fuba cake (like cornmeal) - You can find fuba in the store. Warm with butter. hum…
The most popular for bfast fruit is papaya, but you can add any tropical fruit you want. Juice. Orange, Caju, Maracuja (all in Brazilian store).

This is home style bfast. If you go to a hotel or restaurant, you would have a buffet with these things and more.

In the north of Brazil, they also serve Canjica (hominy corn porridge) you can find the corn at Brazilian store too.

In the south, there is a traditional bfast called continental, they serve even wine, meat, cakes, a lot of thing. The immigrants started this tradition when they had to go to work on the plantations for the whole day. So they had a big meal in the morning. And would eat again only when back home.
